Mark Viera – From The Bronx to Miami, Laughing all the Way

Our social reputation in Miami has generally revolved around partying, sexiness, food and international travelers.   As our City grows and matures it has become more cultured.   Part of the exploding culture has been the re-emergence of the Miami Comedy Scene.   One of the top comedians in Miami (and the US) right now is Mark Viera.

Comedian Mark Viera

Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Mark Viera became fascinated with comedy very early on. While Mark’s mom spent countless hours as a social worker to provide for her family, Mark and his older brother would pass the time watching the popular TV shows of the 70’s and 80’s. He became so engaged in the performances of his favorite comic personalities, it didn’t take long before he began to emulate the characters he came to love. On any given night, he would entertain his family with remarkably accurate portrayals from shows like “Carol Burnett”, “Sanford and Son”, and “Three’s Company”.

We have seen him many times locally.   The Improv in Doral is always a great show.   But last night, we caught his act at Bay Club Comedy in the Sunset Harbour area of Miami Beach.   What a show!  He took us on a trip down memory lane sharing comedic stories of his time growing up in the Bronx – vividly sharing stories of peanut butter sandwiches, deadly car rides with his grandparents and near death playground experiences.   Through it all, he combines these stories with the audiences life journeys bringing back memories and keeping us all in tears laughing at the life’s ridiculously ironic humor.   Needless to say, today we are hurting after laughing for an hour straight.
